Argdravar

The former juggernaut of Rivuzan, now humbled and desperate.

Native Ancestries: Human, Tengu, Orc, Automaton

The northern half of the split continent. Primary biomes include temperate plains, arid badlands, and rocky coastlines. Most settlements are cities that are connected to one another by large, miles long cobble roads. Rivuzan’s largest landlocked body of water, the Eternal Lake, is located in the middle of the continent. What few mountains exist here are not particularly tall. The Argdravarian Gulf on the western coast is the least treacherous of its coastlines, and its close proximity to the longstanding capital city of Westspire makes it the main port of trade for the nation. Most imported goods arrive in settlements along this gulf, and are then transported to other parts of the nation via road or air travel.

The southern border, cut off by The Rift, is traditionally where forests and farmlands existed to produce food to feed the entire country. Ever since The Rift’s destabilisation, Argdravar has struggled to feed its populace on its own without importing food from other nations. The continued decimation of what little fertile land is left steadily erodes the enormous ego of what was once Rivuzan’s largest nation. Areas extremely close to The Rift are twisted and warped versions of their former selves, augmented by the influence of various different planes and fraught with aberrant dangers. Those who tread too close either never return, or come back in a mutated form that bears little resemblance to their previous self.

Argdravar’s cities are sites of technological advancement, though the focus on the types they develop has shifted massively over time. During the Four Centuries of Struggle, weaponry of all kinds saw great innovation. Firearms were created during the tail end of the war, now existing in the present day as ordinary weapons there. In other nations, Argdravar’s firearms are seen as curious objects, and those who harbour animosity towards the nation are hesitant to trust a gunslinger who wields one. The Automaton is the Argdravarian government’s most recently unveiled technological marvel, billed as super advanced constructs. Conspiracies float around that not all is as it seems with Automatons, but those suspect of them cannot agree what malicious end the government has with them.

Rifters who live in Argdravar have done so for several generations at this point, and thus act as though they are fiercely loyal to the nation. For some this is a sincere feeling, for others it is merely a front to allow them to survive in relative peace. It is exceedingly difficult to tell on which side of the fence an Argdravarian Rifter sits without knowing them on a deep, personal level. Mirtmings are the most common kind of Rifter here, though many Relyorians also live near the Eternal Lake and along the coastlines. Froziltans seen in Argdravar are almost exclusively travellers from elsewhere.

To an outsider, Argdravar is likely to come off as a bleak, controlling place. For everyday citizens who simply wish to live out their lives, any of Argdravar’s large cities are among the safest possible places to be. Monsters both small and large are kept at bay by the army, with even supermassive threats unable to breach city walls and cause destruction. Even in rural areas, the army maintains a presence and protects the people there. If one seeks to destroy or conquer Argdravar, brute force will get you nowhere very quickly. Only The Rift is seen as a legitimate existential threat, and the government will eagerly fund those who are serious and have the necessary credentials to research ways to combat it.

The modern, humbled post-war Argdravar rarely works with the Crystal Union directly, but accepts correspondence from Gran’Gol or Kulleroth on behalf of them. Argdravar is more partial to working alongside Gran’Gol, thanks to their long history of sharing technology with one another. Huskmaw will occasionally see the arrival of Argdravarian emissaries who work to build a positive relationship with the fledging nation. No interactions are had with the Verdant Isles, due to their refusal of any government’s influence and Argdravar preferring to not bother with wasting effort better spent working with cooperative nations instead. If any large settlement allows them to, Argdravar will consider building an embassy there.
