Crystal Union
Once united against a common foe, now on the brink of disarray.
The southern half of the split continent. Primary biomes include forests, sandy desert, and savannah. Most settlements are villages and towns, with a scant of cities. Those few cities mark what were the original capitals of the nations that formed into the Crystal Union. Coastlines are not only abundant, but also very easy to traverse, allowing for easy access in and out of the nation at any of its numerous ports. A small mountain range sprawls along the southwest of the peninsula, surrounded by old growth forests.
Initially, the destabilisation of The Rift did not affect the Crystal Union as profoundly as it did Argdravar. But the looming “what if” scenario of the capital city Canvas Keep being so close to the northern border eventually became reality; The Rift’s gradual underground expansion suddenly swallowed half of Canvas Keep whole one day. Those who were not killed in the event were swiftly evacuated from the capital, which was left to waste away in the incomprehensible energy of The Rift. One year out from this disaster, the various responsibilities of the former capital are now shared amongst the other large cities. Access to the fallen capital is forbidden, and the mere contemplation of going there may result in imprisonment.
Every settlement in the Crystal Union, no matter its size, has a unique charm to it and at least one thing they’re proud producers of. A culture of welcoming out-of-towners and offering to trade with them (sometimes aggressively so) is prevalent through most of the nation. The most dedicated of artisans from all ends of Rivuzan will travel to a particular place in the Crystal Union in order to hone their chosen craft even further. In a similar vein, merchants love acquiring goods from all over the Crystal Union to take and sell elsewhere. Unfortunately, counterfeiters have become privy to the demand of these goods, and in some cases it takes a keen eye to spot these fake items.
Though they conscripted Rifters into the war just like Argdravar did, the Crystal Union saw much less friction with the integration of them into their society post-war. After several generations, Rifters are largely like anyone else there. Mirtmings make up the bulk of Rifters here, but a large population of Froziltans established themselves high up in the mountains. Relyorians are typically only found near large coastal ports of trade, typically as part of a ship’s crew.
The Crystal Union’s council convenes at least every couple of months. They will gather at one of the large cities, making sure to rotate so that no particular one is singled out or forgotten. People within a particular region will sometimes travel to their nearest city when one of these council meetings are about to occur, in hopes of voicing their concerns to them. Much has become muddied due to the loss of records and precious artefacts that were stored in Canvas Keep. Many scribes are hired to try and rewrite what records can be reliably corroborated by the council, and the loss of centuries upon centuries of artefacts had to simply, but painfully written off. There is a large push by the populace for more transparency with the council’s activities and methods, to ensure such a devastating loss never reoccurs.
The truce between the Crystal Union and Argdravar is unlikely to be broken, but the two nations still harbour great resentment towards each other. Kulleroth is the nation that the Crystal Union relies on the most to communicate to Argdravar on their behalf. In turn, they receive correspondence from Gran’Gol on behalf of Argdravar. Huskmaw is a curiosity, being a nation that suddenly formed on a small continent off of their eastern coast that they deemed not ideal for living. Nevertheless, both sides see frequent friendly travels via boat due to their close proximity to one another.
